Adolescents can have mental health disorders that interfere with the way they think, feel, and act. When untreated, mental health disorders can lead to school failure, family conflicts, drug abuse, violence, and even suicide.
Our specialized treatment team will create an individualized treatment plan, involving the family in all aspects of care.
SIGNS OF DIFFICULTIES
- Suicidal thoughts or actions; thought of death
- Depression
- Withdrawn behavior
- Mood Swings
- Physical acting out towards self, others, or objects
- Alcohol and/or drug abuse
- Inability to cope with problems and daily activities
- Change in sleeping and/or eating habits; intense fear of weight gain
- Excessive complaints of physical ailments
- Defiance of authority, truancy, theft, and/or vandalism
- School problems: behavioral and/or academically
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
At South Sound, we recognize that family involvement is essential to the treatment process. Through the use of individual family sessions and involvement in groups, the family is educated on mental health issues, conflict resolution, effective communications and parenting skills.
DISCHARGE PLANNING
Discharge Planning is initiated upon admission. Through ongoing communication with the referring professional, the patient, and their family, we work to ensure a smooth transition to community-based services or residential programs.
